A cultural celebration
Jason Martin, a member of the Elk River German Band, performs with his group during the 2011 Oktoberfest in Menno Saturday night, Oct. 22. The event, being held for the 26th time this year, celebrates the tradition and culture of Germans from Russia, a group that settled much of Hutchinson County in the mid-to-late 1800s. About 500 tickets for the event was sold. Visitors to the event could enjoy a traditional buffet-style German meal as well as the performance by the band.

About 500 tickets were sold for the 2011 Oktoberfest. Visitors from around the region packed the Menno City-School Auditorium for the event.
