Unplugged
A fire hydrant near the corner of Highway 18 and Fifth Street lies half-buried in the snow Monday morning, Jan. 4. Members of the Menno Fire Department are encouraging residents to clear snow from around their neighborhood hydrants if they have not already done so. Clearing the snow from around them allows firefighters to more easily locate them in an emergency and prevents damage to them by exposing them to residents in the process of moving snow. In addition to snow, the Menno area experienced bitterly cold temperatures last week, with the mercury bottoming out at -29 on Jan. 2.
