A pair of snowmen sit atop a stump in the back yard of the Hazel Bertsch home in Menno Monday morning, Jan. 9. The stump itself is a remnant of an American Elm tree that was measured as the tallest of its kind in South Dakota before it was cut down in 2015 when concerns arose about the safety of the Bertsch house as well as pedestrians.
