Bringing down the house
The home of Gerald Schaeffer, just south of the former Gail Guthmiller home on Park Street in Menno, is demolished by workers Friday afternoon, Oct. 1. The house sustained considerable damage in an Aug. 23 explosion that completely demolished the Guthmiller home, severely damaged part of the Aisenbrey-Kostel Funeral Chapel to the north and completely destroyed a garage that sat between the Schaeffer and Guthmiller property. Guthmiller was killed in the blast and several others were injured. Workers also removed debris at the site of the Guthmiller home that had remained relatively untouched as investigators continued their work into the cause of the explosion.
